An awareness and knowledge of Art is an incredibly important part of our design approach here at Studio Far West, the right pieces will elevate a space and can even be used as a starting point to a scheme.
Our favourite gallery is Livingstone St Ives as it has the best collection of Cornish Art, curating a perfect mix of paintings, ceramics and sculpture and represents the best artistic talent here in Cornwall.

In September we paid a visit to see Alicia Livingstone and check out the galleries latest’s collections. We have a partnership with Livingstone’s whereby we can have any of the pieces on loan to try in any of the spaces we design- a fantastic way to see the art in situ before committing.

Our standout Artists from our visit was firstly Peter Ward-he hasn’t bought a tube of paint in 13 years and uses materials that have been gathered and processed by hand exclusively from the colours found in the rocks, clays and soils of Cornwall and Devon. His wonderful pieces explore Cornish folklore and have a fantastic storytelling quality about them.

Secondly was Ken Spooner, his work is filled with its own internal symbolism of objects, runes, text and motifs, Ken’s work draws from an array of mythologies as well as his own experiences. Working across a range of media, the works explore the alchemy and physical transformation of paper, paint, and clay. His work has a great graphical quality to them and would be fantastic in a commercial setting.

And last but by no means least was Emily Powell, Powell is a contemporary colourist painter, her subjects surround her in life and include characterful animals, uplifting flowers, fishermen observed from her seaside window and the coastal landscapes of Devon. Her work is so joyful, and you can’t help but be cheered by it, we love her work for young spaces.
