Here at Studio Far West we commence each of our projects with a free initial interior design consultation, where we visit the property and have a chance to meet and get to know our clients. Inspired by the building history, location and architectural style, we establish a comprehensive brief for the work involved and take on board all the detail we need to know before commencing Stage One of our services – Layout and Concept Design.
We begin Stage One with a focus on space planning. Be it a new extension, a full internal re-configuration or a new build property, we always aim to offer 2-3 layout options for review, challenging our clients’ perceptions of the space and reaching a final proposal that meets their individual needs and desires. Alongside the layouts we produce a digital series of mood boards by area giving our clients an overview of our conceptual design ideas which inform the floor plan layouts and a real feeling of the mood and style we think best suits their project and personalities.
Once this first stage is complete, we love nothing more than a day in the studio working up the material finishes palette for the project. We work as a team on this stage creating a harmonius scheme across all areas. We have a fantastic sample library in the studio and are always on the look out for new finishes and materials to bring individuality to each of our projects. We draw inspiration from the natural colours of the environment – Cornish heathers, wild gorse, moody seascapes and earthy landscapes. Sometimes the client likes us to lead the colour palette, and others like to have more input and direction. We recently designed a whole house scheme inspired by the colours of a bed throw the client had purchased on their travels and it led to a wonderfully warm, enticing interior palette.
The aim at this stage is to show our clients the full palette of hard and soft finishes so they can see all the colours and textures alongside each other in Flat Lay trays that can be reviewed together in situ. Seeing these in the natural light levels of each room at different times of the day and night helps to ensure the colours and tones suit the site perfectly.
Floor finishes, wall finishes and all soft furnishings are presented alongside the sanitary ware fixtures, ironmongery and accessories. Fabric choices for any upholstered items are shown paired with scatter cushions, curtain fabrics, pelmets and trims. This stage is presented alongside the Tender drawing package, giving our clients a full picture of the Interior Design before the project starts on site.
